Well, I'm finding myself at the end of yet another temporary job thing and I think I can conclusively say that being a PA is not for me. I'm being lured by the beautiful loubieloutoo into the unknown territory of librarianship - any thoughts from the peanut gallery? Any other suggestions? trazzles has already suggested cheese shop ownership and various work acquaintances have suggested alternative healer and candle maker, amongst other things - perhaps something less, err, lame? All thoughts and musings are welcome - I would attempt to put other helpful bits of information in this post, but as I have absolutely no idea what I want to do or what sort of things I'd like, its pretty much fling enough shit and see what sticks. So to speak.

What aspects of the jobs you have done recently did you particularly like and particularly dislike?

Books are friendly and good, but the pro librarian thing means not great money plus more education, and probably does not make sense unless you have a particularly strong attachment to books already.

I know I hate being a PA and I hate most aspects of admin - although there is something to be said for the mind-numbing properties of photocopying... I think, on reflection, that I'm more interested in research than librarianship per se - that is, social policy research or something in the soft sciences - something touchy feely and lefty, something we can umm and ahh about. I think I like the idea of this because:
a) its sorta kinda maybe useful and good
b)although I find in stressful, I do enjoy putting information together and forming positions and arguments and all that - writing is more in my comfort zone than dealing with people (that said - research methodology is gonna include people somewhere...)

eep. I still don't know. I keep psyching myself out of and into various things. How does anyone *know* what they wanna do?!

with most people I know their occupation is a freak accident. like their uncle's ex step mother's poodle's friend had a vacancy in their bricklaying company, you wanted to earn some pocket money for a weekend, and there you go, 30 years later you a senior bricklaying consultant.

what about a local governmenty thing thats not very peoply but does useful stuff?
