Survey: Slash and sexuality

As some of you may already know, I am currently studying for an MA in Social Research and my dissertation topic is concerned with slash fanfiction - in particular LGBTQ women who read/write m/m. The aim of my research is to explore how sexuality is challenged, expressed and explored in these writings. My interest in the topic is very much due to my own positioning as a lesbian who reads, pretty much exclusively, m/m fic and I have recognised that in the academic work undertaken on slash very little has been said about non-heterosexual identified women. BUT! you don’t have to identify as LGBTQ to respond to the survey - if you read/ write slash I want to hear from you! Ask me if you have any questions!

I’m sure lots of you will have tried to gather data for various things and it is not easy - I am very, very grateful to anyone who responds to the survey - you could win a voucher!

I love you! No, in all seriousness, I love you! Thanks for being a total star!

I'm one of those oddballs who genuinely likes research surveys :) Data is important, so I do my best to contribute it when I can.

Just finished the survey, and I have to say that it was very well-organized and engaging. It got me thinking about why I read and write slash so passionately. Very interesting!

Thanks so much for filling in the survey - I'm glad you found it interesting! Thanks for your kind comments too - so hard to judge when you're designing a survey so its good to know that it worked. x

I did your survery (found via pennypaperbrain) and just wanted to say I thought it was really interesting and thoughtful and I was really glad to have filled it in. Good luck with your research!

Thank you so much! I cannot thank you enough really!

You're more than welcome. I was just wondering if it would be possible to see the results of your work when your masters is complete? As this is a topic in which I am very interested, especially as you say there isn't much out there about lesbians who read and write slash, and I'd love to see what you have to say.

Hello! Sorry, didn't see your reply there for a while. Yes, will definitely be putting something together for survey participants - I just hope I can do the topic justice to be honest!

I came here via pennypaperbrain and filled out your suvery :) I thought it was really well structured and was very thought provoking! I had fun filling it out.

As justwolf said, I'd love to read the results.

Thanks so much for taking the time to fill in the survey - very, very much appreciated. Yes, I've had, lots of interest in the results so I will definitely put something together once the dissertation is complete (the dissertation itself is likely to have a lot of methodology waffle as my MA is concerned with methods, so I think I'll edit this down to something for distribution to survey participants)

Thanks again!

Embarrassing typo!

No worries.

Found out about the survey from ununpentium (on tumblr though). Very interesting ideas presented in it. Not sure if I explained things well enough but I hope it makes some sense...
I accidentally pressed "done" before I could put in any recs. :( Though I doubt you'll be interested in my recs anyway... I think we have vastly different fandoms >.>
Jun. 29th, 2012 02:32 pm (UTC)
Thank you! Really appreciate it! And I do want your recs - fandom is not important to this (well, it is to what I would choose to read for fun, but this isn't fun - This. Is. Sparta. OR a survey, whatevs.

I'm doing it but got stuck at 45 % (the articles on slash) because I really don't know how to put all my thoughts into words
Jun. 29th, 2012 03:16 pm (UTC)
Not at all - thanks for filling it in. Just fill it in as you can - even if you think its a bit garbled or unclear, everything is useful I promise! But if you really can't, you can just skip that section and move on. It's all good!

Hiya, found this survey via ununpentium on tumblr and filled it out.

I'm afraid I got rambling. There is a lot of text in some of those boxes, sorry about that. I never know how to summarize my points. But I hope some of it is helpful......

This seems like a really interesting topic (even if it's mainly about methodology, methodology rocks my socks), and bless you for doing research on this topic that isn't all 'straight women read gay porn.'

Hi there, I found your survey through a TGS friend! I gave you some incredibly long responses and a whole pile of recs, ahaha. I have ~feelings about slash, all of which I hope helps your dissertation! Your questions were quite thought provoking and I actually enjoyed answering it. :D
Jun. 30th, 2012 07:23 am (UTC)
I just finished this. Wow, that was long and in-depth. Thank you for taking the time to make it! :D
Jun. 30th, 2012 11:24 am (UTC)
Wow, that was fascinating! Only now 30 minutes after I pressed "done" I have had another thought that I'd really like to add to my answers - what should I do???

Feel free to inbox me with any of your additional thoughts. Or, if you supplied your email address, I can fish out a copy of your transcript and you can amend that?

Cool bikes! Done :)
Jun. 30th, 2012 12:10 pm (UTC)
